On October 4, 2025, at approximately 2:00pm, Oelwein Officers investigated a theft complaint from a business in the 200-blk of 1st Ave SW. As a result of the investigation, Jason Paul Annis, 51, of Oelwein, was arrested and charged with, Theft 5th Degree – Simple Misdemeanor, Possession of Drug Paraphrenia – Simple Misdemeanor, and Possession of Controlled Substance – 3rd or Subsequent offense – Class D Felony. Annis was located and taken into custody in the 300 block of Southeast at approximately 3:03pm.
At 3:57pm on October 1, 2025, Oelwein Police investigated a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Highway 281 and Highway 150. A gold 2010 Chevrolet Impala driven by Troy Fitzpatrick struck the rear of a stopped red 2005 Western Star dump truck driven by Olivia Rios-Arzola. Initial estimates of damages were $8,000 to the vehicle driven by Fitzpatrick and $100 to the vehicle driven by Rios-Arzola. Fitzpatrick was assigned fault for the accident and was issued a citation for Failure to Stop in Assured Cleared Distance.
At 12:32am on October 2, 2025, Oelwein Police charged Dawn Elizabeth Peterson, 23, of Sumner, with Driving While License Suspended. Peterson was issued a citation and summons to court for the offense, following a traffic stop in the 1300 block of W Charles St.
At around 12:00pm on October 2, 2025, Oelwein Police charged Shawn Paul Hanson, 39, of Dunkerton, with Eluding (25mph or greater over Speed Limit) 2nd or Subsequent Offense - Class C Felony. After refusing to pull over for a traffic stop, Hanson eluded police during a high-speed pursuit starting at around 10:50pm on October 1, 2025, with speeds reaching over 100mph at times. The chase was terminated at around 11:00pm after officers lost sight of Hanson's vehicle, which was later found abandoned with severe damage on the railroad tracks in Fairbank. At around 12:00pm on October 2, 2025, Hanson was located in a field near 20th St and W Ave, where he was placed under arrest. Hanson was also issued four citations for Speeding (two for 16-20 over the limit and two for 21 or more over the limit) and a citation for Failure to Obey Traffic Control Device. Oelwein Police were assisted by the Fayette County Sheriff's Office and the Buchanan County Sheriff's Office.
At 9:04pm on September 29, 2025, Oelwein Police arrested Dizney Marie Willenborg, 25, of Oelwein. Willenborg was charged with two counts of Interference with Official Acts Causing Serious Injury - Aggravated Misdemeanor and one count of Disorderly Conduct (Loud and Raucous Noise) - Simple Misdemeanor. This arrest was made after officers responded to reports of fighting in the 10 block of 1st Ave SE.
At 2:33pm on September 27, 2025, Oelwein Police arrested Austin Sylvester Perry, 21, of Fairbank. Perry was charged with Driving While Barred - Aggravated Misdemeanor, with the arrest taking place in the 100 block of 1st St SW following a traffic stop. Perry was also issued an Equipment Repair Order for defective exhaust.
At 8:23pm on September 27, 2025, Oelwein Police arrested Daniel Warren Wrice, 62, of Oelwein. Wrice was arrested on a Fayette County warrant for Failure to Appear on an original charge of Driving While Barred - Aggravated Misdemeanor. The arrest was made in the 10 block of 2nd St NW.
At 12:20am on September 24, 2025, Oelwein Police arrested James Martin Crawford, 65, of Oelwein. Crawford was arrested on two Fayette County warrants for Probation Violation. This arrest was made in the 10 block of 1st Ave SE.
On September 23, 2025, Oelwein Police completed an investigation into an incident that occurred on August 29, 2025, in the 100 block of 1st Ave SE. As a result, Jana Alexis Rhoades, 21, of Sumner, and Rebecca Charlene Harshman, 23, of Oelwein, were each charged with Disorderly Conduct (Fighting/Violent Behavior) - Simple Misdemeanor. Both parties were issued citations and summons to court for the offenses.
At 2:33pm on September 23, 2025, Oelwein Police investigated a motor vehicle accident at the Dollar Tree. A gray 2016 Subaru Forester driven by Diane Stejskal struck and entered the front windows of the building, after the driver pressed the gas pedal instead of the brake pedal when attempting to park. Initial estimates of damages are $3,000 to the vehicle driven by Stejskal and $9,000 to the building.
On September 22, 2025, at approximately 7:12pm, Oelwein Officers arrested Shauna Jean Snyder, 36, of Oelwein. Snyder was arrested on a Fayette County warrant for Failure to Appear on original charges of Possession of Controlled Substance. Snyder was placed into custody in the 100 block of 13th Ave SW.
On September 21, 2025, at approximately 3:15am, Oelwein Officers conducted a traffic stop in the 10 block of 1st Ave SE. As a result, Phillip Danniel Hayden, 31, of Oelwein, was cited and released for Driving While License Suspended.
At approximately 7:24pm, the Oelwein Police Department investigated a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of 14th St and Rock Island Road. Upon completion of the investigation, it was determined that a 2017 Ford Escape was traveling northbound in the outside lane when the driver, Suzanne Elizabeth Carey of Oelwein, made a left hand. Upon turning, Carey collided with a 2018 GMC Sierra K1500, operated by Kevin Gann of Hazelton. Initial property damage estimates were $10,000 to Gann’s vehicle and $7,000 to Carey’s vehicle. As a result of the investigation, Carey was issued a citation for Turning at Intersection Violation. The Oelwein Police Department was assisted by the Oelwein Fire Department, MercyOne Ambulance Service, Midwest Collision Center and B&L Body Shop.
On September 17, 2025, at approximately 8:20am, Oelwein Officers cited and released Marty Jay Villa, 59, of Oelwein for Driving While License Suspended. This citation is the result of a traffic stop that was conducted in the 200 block of 7th Avenue South East.
On September 15, 2025, Oelwein Police charged a 17-year-old male juvenile with 2nd Degree Theft - Class D Felony. This charge was filed following an investigation into a motor vehicle theft that occurred on September 9, 2025. The guardians of the juvenile have been notified, and the matter has been referred to Juvenile Court.
