Oelwein Police investigated a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of 3rd Ave and E Charles St at 8:42am on July 16, 2024. A white 2023 Volkswagen Jetta driven by Elia Rupright collided with a black 2013 Chevrolet Impala driven by Chance Conner. Initial estimates of damages were $2,000 to the vehicle driven by Rupright and $6,000 to the vehicle driven by Conner. Rupright was cited with Failure to Yield Upon Left Turn and Conner was cited for Failure to Provide Proof of Financial Liability.
At 5:03pm on August 5, 2024, Oelwein Police arrested Lee Michael Benter, 38, of Oelwein. Benter was charged with Driving While License Suspended. Benter was cited and released following a traffic stop at the intersection of 20th St and R Ave. Benter also received citations for Operating a Non-registered Vehicle and Failure to Provide Proof of Financial Liability.
At 1:00am on August 6, 2024, Oelwein Police arrested Mellony Jean Harris, 36, of Oelwein. Harris was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd or Subsequent Offense - Class D Felony and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia - Simple Misdemeanor. This arrest was made in the 900 block of S Frederick Ave following reports of a female subject causing a commotion.
At 4:35pm on August 3, 2024, Oelwein Police arrested Timothy Allen Erhardt, 56, of Strawberry Point. Erhardt was charged with Operating While Under the Influence 2nd Offense - Aggravated Misdemeanor. Erhardt was also given a citation for Possessing an Open Container of Alcohol as a Driver. This arrest was made in the 1300 block of W Charles St following reports of a male suspect passed out in the driver's seat of a vehicle with beer cans near them.
At 8:22pm on August 3, 2024, Oelwein Police arrested Scott Deitrick Overmann, 45, of Oelwein. Overmann was arrested on a Black Hawk County warrant for Violation of Probation. This arrest was made in the 100 block of 1st Ave SE.
At 12:20pm on July 31, 2024, Oelwein Police arrested Harley Dwayne Shuck, 41, of Oelwein. Shuck was arrested on a Fayette County warrant for an original charge of Violation of Probation. This arrest took place in the 1500 block of S Frederick Ave.
At 3:36pm on July 31, 2024, Oelwein Police arrested James Martin Crawford, 64, of Oelwein. Crawford was arrested on a Fayette County warrant for original charges of Theft 2nd Degree - Class D Felony and Forgery - Class D Felony. Upon his arrest Crawford received additional charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine) - Serious Misdemeanor, Possession of a Controlled Substance (Marijuana) 1st Offense - Serious Misdemeanor, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia - Simple Misdemeanor. This arrest was made in the 200 block of 1st Ave SE.
At 8:16pm on July 30, 2024, Oelwein Police arrested Colin William Melka, 20, of Oelwein and Ethan Michael Roepke, 20, of Aurora.
Melka was charged with Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer - Serious Misdemeanor, Interference with Official Acts - Simple Misdemeanor, Public Intoxication - Simple Misdemeanor, and Possession of Alcohol by Person Under 21 1st Offense.
Roepke was charged with Harassment 1st Degree - Aggravated Misdemeanor, Possession of a Controlled Substance (Marijuana) 2nd Offense - Serious Misdemeanor, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia - Simple Misdemeanor, Public Intoxication - Simple Misdemeanor, and Possession of Alcohol by Person Under 21 1st Offense.
These arrests were made in the 300 block of 2nd Ave NE following reports of erratic driving of a vehicle through residential streets followed by the driver causing a disturbance.
At 1:49pm on July 26, 2024, Oelwein Police arrested Frank Everett Boleyn, 70, of Oelwein. Boleyn was arrested on four Fayette County warrants for original charges of three counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd or Subsequent Offense - Class D Felony, and two counts of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia - Simple Misdemeanor. This arrest was made in the 100 block of S Frederick Ave.
At 10:15 pm on July 23, 2024, Oelwein Police arrested Chasity Sharona Schulmeister, 44, of Oelwein. Schulmeister was arrested on a Fayette County warrant for an original charge of Harassment – First Degree. This arrest was made in the 10 block of 1st Ave N.W.
At 8:11pm on July 22, 2024, Oelwein Police arrested Stephanie Marie Loomis, 35, of New Hampton. Loomis was arrested on a Fayette County warrant for Violation of Probation. This arrest was made in the 900 block of Rock Island Rd.
At 8:08pm on July 21, 2024, Oelwein Police arrested Scott Deitrick Overmann, 45, of Oelwein. Overmann was arrested on a Fayette County warrant for an original charge of Theft 3rd Degree - Aggravated Misdemeanor. This arrest was made in the 300 block of 1st St SE.
At 2:31am on July 20, 2024, Oelwein Police arrested Morgan Ann Pentecost, 30, of Oelwein. Pentecost was charged with Domestic Abuse Assault Causing Bodily Injury 1st Offense - Serious Misdemeanor. This arrest was made following a report of a domestic disturbance in the 1 block of 6th Ave SE.
At around 5:40pm on July 18, 2024, Oelwein Police arrested Donald Lawrence Ohrt, 46, of Oelwein. Ohrt was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance (Marijuana) 1st Offense - Serious Misdemeanor and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia - Simple Misdemeanor. This arrest was made in the 200 block of N Frederick Ave following a traffic stop.
On July 18, 2024, Oelwein Police formally charged a 13-year-old male juvenile and a 10-year-old male juvenile. Both juveniles were charged with Criminal Mischief 5th Degree - Simple Misdemeanor. These charges were filed following an investigation into an incident reported on July 12, 2024, of two juveniles kicking in a storm door and damaging it to the point it could no longer open. The guardians of the juveniles have been notified and the matter has been referred to Juvenile Court.
