On June 10, 2018 at 5:00 a.m., Oelwein Officers were called to the 700 block of North Frederick for a person in the area acting suspiciously. Officers arrested Mason Joseph Meyer, age 19 of Oelwein on a charge of Public Intoxication, a Simple Misdemeanor.
At 7:35 p.m. on June 10, 2018 officers responded to the 400 block of 7th Street SE for a reported harassment. Officers made contact with the suspect and arrested Jowayne Marquis Phillips, age 19 of Waterloo for a Polk County Warrant for Burglary 3rd and Possession of Burglary Tools.
Oelwein Police Make Arrest in Connection to Recent Burglaries
The Oelwein Police Department has made an arrest in connection to several area business burglaries that have occurred over the past week. Oelwein Police have arrested Brian Jon Latham, 49, of Waterloo, in connection with burglaries and attempted burglaries that occurred in the 900 block of South Frederick, the 1900 block of South Frederick, the 2300 block of South Frederick, the 600 block of Rock Island Road, the 100 block of 13th Avenue NW and the 400 block of 4th Street NE.
Latham was arrested at 1:40 a.m. on June 8, 2018, in the 2100 block of South Frederick. Latham also had an active Blackhawk County warrant for Voluntary Absence from Custody.
Latham has been charged with:
- Burglary 3rd Degree – Four (4) counts – Class D Felony
- Attempted Burglary 3rd Degree – Three (3) counts – Aggravated Misdemeanor
- Possession of Burglar’s Tools – Aggravated Misdemeanor
The investigation continues and further charges are pending. Latham is being held pending a court appearance.
On June 7th, 2018 at 2:40 p.m., Officers took a report of an Attempted Burglary in the 2300 block of South Frederick. A report was taken and this incident remains under investigation.
On June 6th, 2018 at 5:56 a.m., Officers took a report of a Burglary in the 100 block of 7th St SE. A report was taken and this incident remains under investigation.
On June 6th, 2018 at 7:06 a.m., Officers took a report of a Burglary in the 900 block of South Frederick Avenue. A report was taken and this incident remains under investigation.
On June 4, 2018 at 2:15 p.m., Oelwein Officers arrested Travis Wayne Leftwich, age 39 of Oelwein on a Felony Bench warrant for Parole Violation on an original charge of Sexual Abuse of an Acquaintance.
On June 5th, 2018 at 5:51 a.m., Officers took a report of an Attempted Burglary in the 2300 block of South Frederick. A report was taken and this incident remains under investigation.
On June 5th, 2018 at 7:50 a.m., Officers took a report of an Attempted Burglary in the 1900 block of South Frederick Avenue. A report was taken and this incident remains under investigation.
Officers responded to the 10 block of 1st Avenue NE in Oelwein at 4:05 p.m. on June 5, 2018 for a reported disturbance. Officers arrested Ashley P. Schoonover, age 27 of Carbondale, Illinois, on a charge of Disorderly Conduct, Simple Misdemeanor.
On June 3rd, 2018 at 12:37 a.m., Oelwein Police arrested Daniel James Meaney, 48, of Oelwein. Meaney was arrested and charged with Operating while Intoxicated-Serious Misdemeanor. This arrest followed a report of an erratic driver in the 300 block of W Charles.
On June 3rd, 2018 at 11:51 p.m., Oelwein Police arrested Kristy Ranae Heidt, 48, of Oelwein Heidt was arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance- Aggravated Misdemeanor and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia- Simple Misdemeanor. This arrest followed a traffic stop in the 200 block 2nd AV SE.
On June 2nd 2018 at 12:35 p.m., Oelwein Police arrested Justin Linus Kuennen, 37, of Oelwein. Kuennen was arrested on a Chickasaw County Warrant for Probation Violation on an original charge of Driving under the Influence. Kuennen was also arrested on a Fayette County Warrant for Probation Violation on an original charge of Possession of a Fire arm by a felon. This arrest followed an officer’s interaction with the subject in the 500 block of Rock Island Road.
On June 2nd, 2018 at 7:04 p.m., Officers took a report of a Burglary in the 300 block of 4th ST SW. A report was taken and this incident remains under investigation.
On May 27, 2018 at 4:00 a.m., Oelwein Officers responded to the scene of a one vehicle, property damage accident in the 2500 block of South Frederick. Officers arrested Justin Linus Kuenen, age 37 of Oelwein on charges of Driving While Barred, an Aggravated Misdemeanor, Failure to Have SR22 Insurance, Serious Misdemeanor and Failure to Have Ignition Interlock Device, Serious Misdemeanor. Kuennen was also cited for No Motorcycle License and Failure to Maintain Control.
On May 19, 2018 at 8:41 a.m., Officers took a report of a Criminal Mischief in the 200 block of 2nd AV SE. A report was taken and this incident remains under investigation.
On May 19, 2018 at 11:38 a.m., Officers took a report of a Criminal Mischief in the 300 block of 8th AV SE. A report was taken and this incident remains under investigation.
On May 19, 2018 at 3:31p.m., Officers took a report of a Criminal Mischief in the 200 block of 3rd AV SE. A report was taken and this incident remains under investigation.
At 10: 22 p.m., on May 15, 2018 Oelwein Police arrested Gary Frank Louch, 24, of Oelwein. Louch was arrested on a Fayette County warrant for Failure to Appear on original charges of two counts of Theft 5th Degree. This arrest followed Officer’s interaction with the subject in the 500 block of Rock Island Road.
