On June 15, 2026, at 5:47pm, Oelwein Officers arrested Jason Jerry Laurie, 46, of Oelwein. Laurie was arrested on a Fayette County Warrant for Probation Violation. This arrest took place in the 300 block of Lincoln Dr Ne.

On June 13, 2026, at 11:16pm, Oelwein Officers arrested Miguel Daniel Sanchez, 35, of Oelwein. Sanchez was arrested on charges of Assault – Simple Misdemeanor, Public Intoxication – Simple Misdemeanor, and Interference with Official Acts – Simple Misdemeanor. This arrest took place in the 600 block of North Frederick Ave after officers responded to a report of a domestic disturbance in the 900 block of 2nd Ave Northeast.

At 1:56pm on June 11, 2026, Oelwein Police responded to a two-vehicle accident in the Dollar Tree parking lot.  A blue 2006 Chevrolet Impala, driven by Eli Wayss, 19, of Oelwein, was backing out of a parking space when they struck the driver side of a gray 2013 Dodge Journey, driven by Jan Vandewalker, 66, of Oelwein.  Wayss was assigned fault for the accident, and initial estimates of damages were negligible damage to the vehicle driven by Wayss and $2,000 to the vehicle driven by Vandewalker.

At 2:25pm on June 11, 2026, Oelwein Police responded to reports of people fighting in the 500 block of 5th St NE, leading to the arrest of Tanner Jonathan-Leslie Guyer, 22, of Oelwein.  Guyer was charged with Disorderly Conduct (Fighting/Violent Behavior) - Simple Misdemeanor, and was issued a summons to court for the violation.

On June 9, 2026, at 11:04pm, Oelwein Officers conducted a traffic stop in the 200 block of 1st Ave Se. As a result of the traffic stop, Andrew Richard Johnson Jr, 31, of Oelwein was issued a summons into court for Driving While License Suspended. Additionally, Johnson received an Equipment Repair Order for a non-functioning headlight.

On June 7, 2026, Oelwein Police finished an investigation into a two-vehicle accident that occurred on June 6, 2026, at 1:25pm at the intersection of Eastline Rd and E Charles St.  A blue 2016 Honda Civic, driven by Amnda Jean Lafler, 46, of Cedar Rapids, struck the rear bumper of a blue 2011 Chrysler Town & Country, driven by Michael Allen Claggett, 68, of Jesup, who had stopped at the northbound stop sign on Eastline Rd to yield to cross traffic on E Charles St.  Lafler initially left the scene of the accident but was located and contacted by officers a short while later.  Due to Lafler leaving the scene, the only damages estimated were to the vehicle driven by Claggett, which were estimated at $2,000.  Lafler was assigned fault for the accident after admitting to rearending the other vehicle and leaving.

On June 7, 2026, Oelwein Police formally charged a 17-year-old male juvenile for an incident that occurred on May 25, 2026, where officers responded to the 300 block of 4th St SE and the 100 block of 7th Ave SE for multiple reports of doors damaged from being kicked in.  The juvenile was charged with two counts of 4th Degree Criminal Mischief - Serious Misdemeanor.  The guardians of the juvenile have been notified, and the matter has been referred to Juvenile Court.

At 12:14am on June 6, 2026, Oelwein Police arrested Roger Dean Hall III, 20, of Oelwein, after responding to calls of a group of people causing a disturbance in the street in the 100 block of 6th St SW.  Hall was charged with Assault Causing Fear of Immediate Contact - Simple Misdemeanor, Disorderly Conduct (Fighting/Violent Behavior) - Simple Misdemeanor, and Public Intoxication - Simple Misdemeanor.

At 4:07pm on June 6, 2026, Oelwein Police responded to a two-vehicle accident on 1st Ave SE in front of McDonald's.  A silver 2017 Chevrolet Equinox, driven by a 17-year-old male juvenile, was heading southbound on 1st Ave SE and went to make a left turn into the McDonald's parking lot, cutting across the path of a white 2016 Chevrolet Impala, driven by a 16-year-old female juvenile, that was heading northbound on 1st Ave SE, resulting in a collision.  Initial estimates of damages were $12,000 to the Chevrolet Equinox and $10,000 to the Chevrolet Impala.  The 17-year-old driver was assigned fault for the accident and was issued a citation for Failure to Yield Upon Left Turn.  Both drivers were checked by paramedics with no injuries reported.  Oelwein Police were assisted by the Oelwein Fire Department, MercyOne Oelwein Ambulance, and Midwest Towing and Collision.

On June 5, 2026, at 9:26am, Oelwein Officers arrested Jacquiere Burnside, 32, of Oelwein. Burnside was arrested on Black Hawk County Warrants for Probation Violation – Original charges of OWI – 2nd Offense, Driving While License Revoked, and Possession of a Controlled Substance.

At 6:51am on June 3, 2026, Oelwein Police responded to a single vehicle accident just south of the intersection of 1st Ave NE/IA 150 and N Frederick Ave.  The investigation revealed that a black 2010 Harley-Davidson Street Glide, ridden by Christopher Platter, 22, of Oelwein, was heading northbound on IA 150 past the turnoff for 1st Ave NE when they failed to make the turn and struck the curb, causing the motorcycle and rider to be thrown off the roadway.  Initial estimates of damages were $5,000 to the motorcycle owned by Platter.  Platter was injured in the accident and was transported to MercyOne Oelwein for treatment.  The cause of the accident was determined to be excessive speed leading to a loss of control, for which Platter was issued a citation for Failure to Reduce Speed to a Reasonable and Proper Rate.  Oelwein Police were assisted by MercyOne Oelwein Ambulance, the Oelwein Fire Department, and Midwest Towing and Collision.

At 7:56pm on June 3, 2026, Oelwein Police conducted a traffic stop in the 300 block of Lincoln Dr NE.  As a result, Jason Jerry Laurie, 46, of Oelwein was arrested on charges of Operating While Intoxicated 2nd Offense - Aggravated Misdemeanor and Interference with Official Acts - Simple Misdemeanor.  Laurie was also issued a citation for Speeding in a 55 or Under Zone (16 through 20 Over).

At 2:01am on June 4, 2026, Oelwein Police arrested Kenneth Paul Lindsey, 41, of Oelwein.  The arrest was made in the 800 block of N Frederick Ave, where Lindsey surrendered himself to officers on a Fayette County warrant for Failure to Appear for a Debtor's Exam.

At 8:49am on June 2, 2026, Oelwein Police arrested Maryann Kaylynn Bockenstedt, 34, of Independence.  Bockenstedt was arrested on a Buchanan County warrant for Violation of Probation.  This arrest was made in the 400 block of 4th St NE.
