Landlord Meeting
The Oelwein Police Department and the Office of the Building Inspector will hold a third meeting with local landlords, on May 17th, 2017, at 5:30 p.m. The meeting will not last more than one hour.
This meeting is a continuation and follow-up to the previous meeting held in March and April. The purpose of this meeting will be to discuss progress that has been made and to work together to map out a system of communication as well as to plan for improving properties and the quality of tenants. All local landlords are encouraged to attend as we work together to provide safe and quality housing for our citizens.

On May 8, 2017 at 6:20 p.m., Oelwein Officers responded to the 10 block of 16th Street SE for reported suspicious persons on the property. Officers arrested Cornell Lavon Jones, age 45 of Chicago, Illinois for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Simple Misdemeanor and Conspiracy to Commit a Felony, a Class "D" Felony and Christopher Cortez Jackson, age 26, also of Chicago, Illinois for Possession of Marijuana, a Serious Misdemeanor and Conspiracy to Commit a Felony, a Class "D" Felony.

Oelwein Police are investigating a theft complaint. Oelwein Police received a report of Theft at 11:27 p.m., on May 6, 2017 in the 100 block of West Charles. This incident remains under investigation.
May 4,2017
On May 4, 2017 at 9:55 p.m. Oelwein Officers responded to a report of a hit and run vehicle accident in the 300 block of 2nd Street NE. Officers located the suspect and arrested Jeffery Richard Woods, age 52 of Oelwein on charges of Driving While License Suspended, a Simple Misdemeanor; Operating a Vehicle Without Owner's Consent, an Aggravated Misdemeanor; and OWI, Serious Misdemeanor.

On April 26, 2017 @ 6:45 a.m., Oelwein Officers cited Michael Andrew Dehart, age 52, for Failure to Abate Property as Ordered for a property in the 200 block of 8th Avenue SW.
On April 26, 2017 at 5:25 p.m., Oelwein Officers responded to a disturbance in the 900 block of 3rd Avenue NE. Officers arrested Olivia May Rupright, age 18, of Oelwein on charges of Assault Causing Injury, a Serious Misdemeanor and Criminal Mischief 5th Degree, a Simple Misdemeanor.

At 7:46 p.m., on April 22, 2017 Oelwein Police arrested Arturo Araujo, 24, of West Union. Araujo was arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance 2nd Offense- Aggravated Misdemeanor, Interference with Official Acts-Simple Misdemeanor and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia- Simple Misdemeanor. This arrest followed a traffic stop in the 700 block of East Charles St.
At 9:57 p.m., on April 22, 2017 Oelwein Police Cited Cody Lee Holub, 20, of Independence. Holub was cited for Possession under the Legal Age- Simple Misdemeanor. This Citation occurred after an officer’s interaction with the subject in the 300 block 8th Ave. SE.
At 6:40 a.m., on April 23, 2017 Oelwein Police arrested Margaret Earline Joyner, 60, of Hazelton. Joyner was arrested and charged with Operating while Intoxicated- 3rd Offense-Class D Felony. This arrest followed a traffic stop at the intersection of Hwy 150 south and Hwy 281.
At 10:49 on April 23, 2017 Oelwein Police arrested Joseph Robert Hedgman, 23, of Oelwein. Hedgman was arrested and charged with Public Intoxication-Simple Misdemeanor. This arrest resulted from a disturbance in the 10 block 4th Ave NE.

April 22, 2017
At 7:46 p.m., on April 22, 2017 Oelwein Police arrested Arturo Araujo, 24, of West Union. Araujo was arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance 2nd Offense- Aggravated Misdemeanor, Interference with Official Acts-Simple Misdemeanor and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia- Simple Misdemeanor. This arrest followed a traffic stop in the 700 block of East Charles St. Mr. Araujo attempted to flee from officers on foot. After a short foot pursuit, he was taken into custody in the 10 block of 7th Avenue SE.
At 9:57 p.m., on April 22, 2017 Oelwein Police Cited Cody Lee Holub, 20, of Independence. Holub was cited for Possession under the Legal Age- Simple Misdemeanor. This Citation occurred after an officer’s interaction with the subject in the 300 block 8th Ave. SE
April 21, 2017
On April 18, 2017 at 8:40 p.m., Oelwein Police served an abatement to the resident of a property in the 600 block of 1st Street NE. On April 21, 2017 David Duane Latham, age 59, was served a civil citation for Failure to Abate Property as Ordered.
Oelwein Officers performed a traffic stop at Palace Road and 60th Street in Oelwein, on April 21, 2017 at 10:40 a.m. Officers cited Charles Lavern Wood, age 38 of Oelwein, for Driving While License Revoked.
