October 11,2022

Oelwein Police investigated a motor vehicle accident in the 300 block of 8th Ave SE at 4:23 p.m. on October 6th, 2022. A white Ford Expedition driven by Autumn Paine collided with a black Ford Expedition driven by Callie Berryman. Initial estimates of damage were over $1500 to each vehicle. Paine was cited for Improper Left Turn. The Oelwein Police were assisted by Mercy Oelwein Ambulance and the Oelwein Fire Department.

 

At 12:30 p.m. on October 10th, 2022, Oelwein Police arrested Ian Nathaniel Morgan, 21, of Oelwein. Morgan was arrested on a charges of Domestic Abuse Assault (1st offense) - simple misdemeanor, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia - simple misdemeanor, and Disorderly Conduct (loud noise) - simple misdemeanor. This arrest was made following a report of a disturbance in the 10 block of 6th St SE.

SUBJECT: Open Burning Dates Set
Per Oelwein City Ordinance 16-80, the open burning dates for inside the Oelwein City limits
are set to start at 8:00 a.m. on October 8, 2022. The final date for the fall open burning will be
November 20, 2022. The open burning has the following restrictions:
1) Time Restriction: Burning shall be allowed only on specific days, between 8:00 A.M. and 9:00
P.M., and under favorable atmospheric conditions or local circumstances designated by the
Public Safety Chief or the Fire Chief and said fire does not create a nuisance, health or safety
hazard.
2) Location: No burning shall be allowed within fifty (50) feet of any structure unless the landscape
waste pile is three (3) feet or less in diameter and two (2) feet or less in height, in which case the
separation distance shall be a minimum of twenty-five (25) feet from the structure.
3) Attendance: All fire shall be constantly attended by a person who shall assume responsibility for
the burning. A garden hose connected to a water supply or other approved fire-extinguishing
equipment must readily available at the burning site.
4) Ordered Discontinuance: The Public Safety Chief, the Fire Chief, or his/her designee, is
authorized to order the cessation of the burning if smoke emissions create a nuisance or safety
hazard.
5) Landscape waste: The disposal by open burning of landscape waste originating on the premises
during the designated burning seasons each year, provided such burning is conducted in
accordance with the above rules.
6) Recreational fires: Open fires for cooking, heating, recreation and ceremonies, provided they
comply with the limits for emission of visible air contaminants established by the Iowa
Department of Natural Resources. Rubber or plastic materials shall not be burned in a
recreational fire.
Persons are not allowed to burn garbage, construction materials, etc...
If burning is not possible, the Oelwein Yard Waste Disposal Site is open. It's located at the intersection
of 4th Street SW and 7th Avenue SW. The site is open 7 days a week. Only natural yard waste is
allowed to be dropped off, which includes leaves, grass trimmings, brush, garden waste, and tree
branches.

At 12:59 p.m. on September 30th, 2022, Oelwein Police arrested Nicole Marie Pingree, 38, of Oelwein. Pingree was arrested in the 800 block of East Charles St on a Fayette County warrant for an original charge of Violation of No Contact Order.

 

At 3:24 p.m. on September 30th, 2022, Oelwein Police arrested Natalie Jolene LaPole, 29, of Oelwein. LaPole was arrested in the 200 block of 5th Ave NE on a Fayette County warrant for an original charge of Violation of No Contact Order.

 

At 9:20 p.m. on October 1st, 2022, Oelwein Police arrested Sarah Jayne Moore, 32, of Oelwein. Moore was arrested on a charge of Assault - simple misdemeanor. This arrest was made after a disturbance was reported in the 900 block of 1st St NW.

At 2:07 p.m. on September 28th, 2022, Oelwein Police arrested Tristan Marie Westpfahl, 35, of Oelwein, Westpfahl was arrested in the 5800 block of Palace Road on a Fayette County warrant for an original charge of Driving While License Suspended. 

 

At 5:21 p.m. on September 28th, 2022, Oelwein Police arrested Randall Lee Thompson, 33, of Hazleton. Thompson was arrested in the 1500 block of South Frederick Ave on a Buchanan County warrant for Parole Violation.

At 1:56 p.m. on September 26th, 2022, Oelwein Police arrested Nancy Sheree Latham, 42, of Oelwein. Latham was arrested in the 10 block of 1st Ave SE on a Fayette County warrant for an original charge of Controlled Substance Violations.

At 12:53 p.m. on September 24th, 2022, Oelwein Police arrested Justin Michael Brewer, 35, of Oelwein. Brewer was arrested in the 500 block of 5th St NE on a Fayette County warrant for Failure to Appear on an original charge of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

 

At 8:56 p.m. on September 24th, 2022, Oelwein Police arrested Jerad Lee Stewart, 22, of Oelwein. Stewart was arrested on charges of Domestic Abuse Assault - aggravated misdemeanor, Assault on a Peace Officer, no injury (2 counts) - serious misdemeanor, Assault on Peace Officer, injury - aggravated misdemeanor, Possession of Controlled Substance (marijuana) - serious misdemeanor, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia - simple misdemeanor, Disarming a Peace Officer (2 counts) - felony, Interference with Official Acts - serious misdemeanor.

At 11:28 p.m. on September 21st, 2022, Oelwein Police arrested Joseph Jay Nolan II, of Oelwein. Nolan was arrested in the 300 block of 7th Ave SE on a Fayette County warrant for an original charge of Driving While License Suspended.

September 20,2022

At 3:26 p.m. on September 19th, 2022, Oelwein Police arrested Richard Eric Woods, 51, of Oelwein. Woods was arrested on a charge of Driving While License Suspended and cited for Motorcycle License Violation, Operation Without Registration, Failure to Transfer Title on Motor Vehicle, and Failure to Provide Proof of Financial Liability. This arrest was made following a traffic stop at 2nd St and 8th Ave SW. 

September 19,2022

At 7:25 p.m. on September 16th, 2022, Oelwein Police arrested Mark Allyn Schmidt, 50, of Cedar Rapids. Schmidt was cited and released on a charge of Driving While License Suspended. This arrest was made following a traffic stop in the 200 block of 7th St SE.

 

At 12:23 p.m. on September 18th, 2022, Oelwein Police arrested Trenton James Husted, 34, of Oelwein. Husted was arrested in the 200 block of 10th St SE on a Fayette County warrant for Forgery (9 counts).

September 16, 2022

At 5:27 p.m. on September 15th, 2022, Oelwein Police arrested Cameron Jon Smith, 27, of Oelwein. Smith was arrested on on charges of Domestic Assault Choking/Bodily Injury - felony, and Interference with Official Acts - simple misdemeanor. This arrest was made following a report of a disturbance in the 10 block of 5th St NW.
