Oelwein Police are investigating a Burglary Complaint.  Oelwein Police received a report of Theft, at 8:09 p.m., on October 7, 2017 from the 100 block 3^rd av se. This incident remains under investigation.

On October 3, 2017 at 6:46 p.m., Oelwein Police arrested Aaron Paul James, 38, of Oelwein.  James was arrested on a Buchanan County Warrant for Making False Reports.  This arrest followed an officer’s interaction in the 10 block 9^th av se.

On October 3, 2017 at 8:21 p.m., Oelwein Police arrested Cory Arden Hursey, 31, of Oelwein.  James was arrested on a Fayette County Warrant for Residency Violation.  This arrest followed an officer’s interaction in the 10 block 8^th st sw.

On October 2, 2017 at 4:20 p.m. Oelwein Officers responded to a report of an assault in the 400 block of 1st Avenue SE.  Officers arrested Charlotte Estelle Scott, age 31 of Oelwein on a charge of Assault Causing Injury, a Serious Misdemeanor.

On October 2, 2017 Oelwein Officers arrested Erika Ann Sheffert, age 28 of Oelwein, on a charge of Criminal Mischief 4th Degree, a Serious Misdemeanor.  This charge stems from response to a disturbance call in the 600 block of 6th Street NE at 2:40 a.m. on October 1, 2017.

On September 28, 2017 at 11:50 p.m., Oelwein Police arrested David Lee Allen Nuehring, 51, of Oelwein.  Nuehring was arrested and charged with Domestic Abuse Assault-Simple Misdemeanor and Violation of a No Contact Order- Simple Misdemeanor.  This arrest followed an incident in the 400 block of 1^st st NE

Wednesday afternoon, the City Crews and the Oelwein Police Department removed numerous nuisance items from a local property. On Tuesday, September 27^th, the magistrate court had a hearing in reference to the Oelwein Police Department charging the 723 2^nd Avenue SW property owner with two separate charges. Steven Gabriel had been charged with code violations for the structural issues at this property as well as numerous nuisance items on the property.  The court found Mr. Gabriel guilty of both counts. The court allowed for a limited timeline for the structural issues to be remedied and then ordered the City to enter the property and abate the nuisance with the costs of that clean up going to Mr. Gabriel.  The following are some of the before and after photos of this effort.

Fire Investigation Completed

The Oelwein Police Department has completed their investigation into two house fires, in the 100 block of 4th Ave NE, that occurred on September 14, 2017. As a result of this investigation, two juveniles, under the age of 14 years old; have been referred to Juvenile Court Services for Arson 2nd Degree. 

On September 25, 2017 at 6:40 p.m. Oelwein Officers arrested Cisco Ray Ritter, age 20 of Charles City on charges of Possession of Paraphernalia, Simple Misdemeanor and Possession of a Controlled Substance, Serious Misdemeanor.  This arrest stemmed from a driving complaint and a traffic stop.
