On September 23, 2019 at 12:05 a.m., Oelwein Officers performed a traffic stop at the intersection of Highways 150 and 12th ST SE. Officers cited Clayton  Allen Bushaw age 23 of Waterloo, for Driving while License Suspended.  Bushaw was also given a equipment repair order for a brake lamp.

Release: Robbery 2nd Degree – Arson 1st Degree – Interference With Official Acts 

The Oelwein Police Department was called to a robbery in progress at the Cenex convenience store, 701 South Frederick. Upon arrival officers discovered that the suspect was still inside the building and that the suspect had started a fire inside the store. 

The subject resisted officers as they attempted to take him into custody but was subsequently secured and transported from the scene. 

Dion Lee Moore II, age 36, of Hazleton has been charged with: 

Robbery 2nd Degree – Class C Felony Arson 1st Degree – Class B Felony Interference With Official Acts by Resisting Arrest – Simple Misdemeanor 

The Oelwein Fire Department was able to quickly extinguish the fire which left minor damage to the contents of the building. 

The Oelwein Police Department was assisted by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (IDNR), the Fayette County Sheriffs Department, the Buchanan County Sheriffs Department and the Oelwein Fire Department.

 

On September 22, 2019 at 1:09 p.m., Oelwein Police Officers responded to 200 block  3rd AV SE for a reported Theft.  This incident remains under investigation.

 

On September 22, 2019 at 1:26 p.m., Oelwein Police Officers responded to 10 block  1st AV SE for a reported Theft.  This incident remains under investigation.

September 21, 2019

On September 21, 2019 at 8:01 p.m., Oelwein Police Officers responded to 10 block South Frederick for a reported Theft.  This incident remains under investigation.

 

On September 21, 2019 at 9:04 p.m., Oelwein Police arrested Torianne Dannielle Ausmus, 19, of Oelwein. Ausmus was arrested and charged with Criminal Mischief 4th Degree-Serious Misdemeanor            .  This arrest followed an incident in the 100 block 3rd AV NW

September 18, 2019

On September 18, 2019 at 7:18 a.m., Oelwein Police responded to the 100 block 3rd AV SE for a reported Theft.  This incident remains under investigation.

September 17, 2019

On September 17, 2019 at 7:29 a.m., Oelwein Police Officers responded to 600 block East Charles for a reported Criminal Mischief.  This incident remains under investigation

 

On September 17, 2019 at 2:42 p.m., Oelwein Police Officers responded to 800 block North Frederick for a reported Theft.  This incident remains under investigation

September 15,2019

On September 15, 2019 at 3:00 a.m., Oelwein Officers performed a traffic stop at the intersection of Highways 281 and 150. Officers arrested Paige Jo Ashline, age 20 of Edgewood, for OWI 1st Offense.  Ashline was also cited for Underaged Possession of Alcohol and given a written warning for speeding.

On September 12, 2019 at 3:51 p.m., Oelwein Police Officers responded to 800 block 5th ST SE for a reported Theft.  This incident remains under investigation

Release: July 27th Oelwein Chamber and Area Development Burglary Investigation Complete - Arrests Made

                                            

The Oelwein Police Department has completed the investigation into a July 27th burglary that was reported to have occurred at the Oelwein Chamber and Area Development building, 25 West Charles Street.

The Oelwein Police Department has charged the following:

 

Krystle Lynn Schoultz, 30, of Oelwein

Burglary 3rd Degree

 

Robert Joseph Rinella, 27, of Hazleton

Burglary 3rd Degree

Both subjects have been arrested and were released pending trial.

Release: Area Burglary Investigation – Arrests Made

                                     

   

The Oelwein Police Department has made arrests related to a number of local burglaries with more charges anticipated in other jurisdictions. 

Officers on patrol, near the 400 block of South Frederick, observed a suspicious vehicle and behavior from an individual. Upon investigation, the officer discovered items believed to be involved in a recent theft and burglary. Officers continued the investigation by questioning individuals and obtaining search warrants. This investigation led to the discovery of a large amount of stolen tools, clothing, wire, and various other items. Those items have been connected to local burglaries as well as several burglaries in surrounding communities and counties. 

The investigation also led to the locating of a stolen vehicle from a residential neighborhood in Oelwein. 

The Oelwein Police Department continues to work with area jurisdictions in reference to resolving burglaries in their areas. 

The Oelwein Police Department has arrested and charged the following:



Virgil Patrick McGuire, 32 years old of Cedar Rapids

*Burg 3rd- D Felony

*Operating without vehicle owners consent- Aggravated mis

*Driving while license barred - Simple mis

 

Anthony Dean Nelson, 46 years old of Cedar Rapids

*Theft 3rd- Aggravated Misdemeanor 

*Interference with official acts- Aggravated Misdemeanor

*Trespass- Simple Misdemeanor

*Carrying weapons (knife over 5 inches) Aggravated Misdemeanor

*Warrant from Linn County $50,000 bond for DWLB and Eluding

 

Jamie Leigh Fye, 22 years old of Kennett, Pennsylvania

*Possession controlled substance - Ser Misdemeanor

*Possession drug paraphernalia - Ser Misdemeanor

*Possession of Stolen Property - Ser Misdemeanor

*Operate vehicle without owner’s consent - Ser Misdemeanor

 

This investigation continues and more charges are pending.

September 10,2019

On Sept 10, 2019 at 11:15 p.m., Oelwein Officers performed a traffic stop in the 10 block of West Charles.  Officers arrested David Matthew Leyh, age 61 of Oelwein for a Bremer County Sheriff's Office warrant for Theft 5th Degree.
