At 2:14 p.m. on August 30th, 2021, Oelwein Police arrested Joshua Michael Dehart, 34, of Oelwein. Dehart was arrested on a charge of Driving While License Suspended - simple misdemeanor, and cited for No Insurance, a Registration violation, and a Motorcycle License violation. This arrest was made following a traffic stop in the 500 block of South Frederick Ave in Oelwein.
At 7:35 p.m. on August 29th, 2021, Oelwein Police arrested Tristan Marie Westpfahl, 34, of Oelwein. Westpfahl was cited and released on charges of Driving While License Suspended and No Insurance. This arrest was made following a traffic stop in the 10 block of North Frederick in Oelwein.
At 9:51 p.m. on August 29th, 2021, Oelwein Police arrested Brooke Ann Latham, 27, of Oelwein. Latham was arrested on charges of Interference with Official Acts - simple misdemeanor, Disorderly Conduct (Fighting) - simple misdemeanor, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia - simple misdemeanor, Public Intoxication - simple misdemeanor, and Assault with Bodily Injury - serious misdemeanor. This arrest was made after a citizens report of a fight in the 10 block of 1st St SW in Oelwein.
At 9:51 p.m. of August 29th, 2021, Oelwein Police arrested Nicole Marie Pingree, 37, of Oelwein. Pingree was arrested on charges of Public Intoxication - simple misdemeanor, Disorderly Conduct (Fighting) - simple misdemeanor, and Assault with Bodily Injury - serious misdemeanor. This arrest was made after a citizens report of a fight in the 10 block of 1st St SW in Oelwein.
At 8:55 p.m. on August 27th, 2021, Oelwein Police arrested Dylan Christopher Voges, 18, of Oelwein. Voges was arrested in the 1100 block of 1st Ave SW in Oelwein on a Fayette Co Warrant for an original charge of Driving While License Suspended.
At 9:44 p.m. on August 27th, 2021, Oelwein Police arrested Natalie Nicole Young, 22, of Oelwein. Young was arrested in the 100 block of West Charles in Oelwein on a Buchanan Co Warrant for an original charge of Theft 5th Degree.
At 2:48 p.m. on August 23rd, 2021, Oelwein Police arrested Terry Rex Staton, 64, of Oelwein. Staton was arrested on a charge of Driving While License Denied or Revoked - Serious Misdemeanor. Staton was also arrested on a Fayette Co Warrant for Failure to Appear on an original charge of Driving While License Denied or Revoked - Serious Misdemeanor. This arrest was made following a traffic stop in the 200 block of 2nd Ave SE in Oelwein.
At 5:42 p.m. on August 22nd, 2021, Oelwein Police arrested Robert Allen Latham, 47, of Oelwein. Latham was arrested on a charge of Domestic Abuse Assault - 2nd Offense - Serious Misdemeanor. This arrest was made following a citizens report of a disturbance in the 10 block of 3rd Ave NE.
At 10:27 a.m. on August 20, 2021, Oelwein Police arrested Michael Allan Rickert, 44, of Oelwein. Rickert was arrested in the 100 block of 4th Ave SE on a Bremer Co warrant for Failure to Appear on an original charge of OWI 1st offense.
On 08/17/21 Oelwein officers executed a search warrant at 706 3rd Ave SW. The warrant was part of an ongoing drug investigation. Officers were assisted by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, both patrol and corrections officers and the Iowa State Patrol.
All were charged with gathering where controlled substances are being used, and drug tax stamp violations. Additional charges for some of the defendants are noted.

At 2251 dispatch received a call that an older white vehicle with Minnesota plates had driven through a couple of yards and the suspect vehicle was now at Casey’s in Oelwein. An Oelwein Officer arrived at Casey’s at 2253 and attempted to make contact with occupant of the vehicle. The vehicle took off and a pursuit ensued. The pursuit ended in a field in the 9000-blk of Neon Rd in Maynard. The occupant fled on foot and was subsequently apprehended in a corn field.
Michael Lopez, 34, of Postville was charged with Eluding-D Felony, Possession of Marijuana 1st Offense - Serious Misdemeanor, Driving while License Suspended - Simple Misdemeanor, Reckless Driving - Simple Misdemeanor, along with several traffic violations. Other charges may follow.
Oelwein Police were assisted by the Fayette Co Sherriff's Office and the Iowa State Patrol.
At 8:08 p.m. on August 15th, 2021, Oelwein Police arrested Dakota Fratzke, 23, of Strawberry Point. Fratzke was arrested on charges of Possession of Controlled Substance - serious misdemeanor, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia - simple misdemeanor, Criminal Mischief - felony, Possession of Controlled Substance (marijuana) - simple misdemeanor - Theft 2nd Degree - felony, and Driving While License Suspended. This arrest was made following a traffic stop at 5th Ave NW and West Charles.
At 8:15 a.m. on August 13th, 2021, Oelwein Police arrested Carl Hernandez, 49, of Oelwein. Hernandez was arrested at the Oelwein Police Dept on a Fayette County warrant for an original charge of animal abuse.
Oelwein Police are investigating a motorcycle theft complaint. Oelwein Police received a report of theft of a motorcycle at 11:22 a.m. on August 13th from the 500 block of West Charles. The vehicle is described as a 2006 black Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle. This vehicle was later recovered.
At 1:38 p.m. on August 13th, 2021, Oelwein Police arrested Terry Staton, 64, of Oelwein. Staton was arrested on a charge of Driving While License Revoked - Serious Misdemeanor. This arrest was made after a citizens report of suspicious activity in the area.
Oelwein Police investigated a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of 7th St SE and Rock Island Rd at 3:19 p.m. on August 13th, 2021. A Buick Enclave driven by Sandra Steil collided with a Dodge Grand Caravan driven by Ashton Beatty. Oelwein Police were assisted by Mercy Oelwein Ambulance and the Oelwein Fire Dept.
On August 12, 2021, at approximately 11:15 a.m., the Oelwein Police Department responded to a report of a suspicious package that was left near a building at Transco, 300 7th Ave NW. Upon investigation, the package deemed to not be a threat to the safety of those nearby.
