Oelwein Police investigated a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of 1st St and 5th Ave SE at 07:56 a.m. on January 24th, 2022. A Chrysler van driven by Veronica Prouty collided with a utility pole. Initial estimate of damage was $5000 to the vehicle driven by Prouty.
At 4:15 p.m. on January 29th, 2022, Oelwein Police arrested Steven Duane Benton, 34, of Oelwein. Benton was arrested on a charge of Theft 3rd Degree - aggravated misdemeanor. This arrest was made after a report of shoplifting in the 100 block of 2nd St SE.
On January 25, 2022 at 7:00 p.m., Oelwein Police Officers arrested Kenneth Dale Bostic, age 48, of West Union, on a Fayette County Sheriff's Office warrant for Operating a Motor Vehicle Without Owner's Consent, two counts of Violation of a No Contact Order and Interference With Official Acts.
At 12:54 a.m. on January 19th, 2022, Oelwein Police arrested Destiny Marie Quario, 22, of Oelwein. Quario was arrested on a charge of Driving While License Suspended. This arrest was made following a traffic stop in the 300 block of 2nd Ave NE in Oelwein.
At 9:44 p.m. on January 15th, 2022, Oelwein Police arrested Jesse Lee Melka, 40, of Oelwein. Melka was arrested on a charge of Domestic Abuse Assault - simple misdemeanor. This arrest was made following a report of a disturbance in the 200 block of 1st St SE in Oelwein.

Charged Following an Investigation by the Oelwein Police Department and the Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division
The Oelwein Police Department has completed an investigation into incidents of selling alcohol to minors, selling tobacco/vape products to minors, and illegal hemp sales.
The charges allege that On November 30, 2021 and December 1, 2021, employees of H & S Store, LLC (AKA BP Gas), 801 East Charles Street, sold alcohol and tobacco products to persons under the legal age. Further, on December 10, 2021, employees at this location sold tobacco/vape products to a person under the legal age.
On the business premises, illegally labeled and distributed hemp products were located and seized. Hemp products marketed and sold for inhalation use is illegal in the state of Iowa.

3 counts of Licensee/Permittee Supply Alcohol to Person Under the Legal Age
1 count of as an Employee Supplying Alcohol to Person Under the Legal Age
1 count of as an Employee Providing Tobacco/Vapor Product to Minor
1 count of sale/distribution of a hemp inhalation product
Robert Moser, 22, of Oelwein

Kassandra Cole, 22, of Hazleton
1 count of as an Employee Providing Tobacco/Vapor Product to Minor

At 3:22 p.m. on January 10th, 2022, Oelwein Police arrested Andrew James Kleitsch, 37, of Oelwein. Kleitsch was cited and released on a charge of Driving While License Suspended. This arrest was made following a traffic stop in the area of Highway 150 and Highway 281.
At 7:03 p.m. on January 8th, 2021, Oelwein Police arrested Jesse Clarence Guest, 32, of Oelwein. Guest was arrested on a Fayette County warrant for Failure to Appear on an original charge of Driving While License Denied or Revoked - serious misdemeanor. Guest was also charged with Unlawful Possession of Prescription Drugs - serious misdemeanor. This arrest was made in the 200 block of West Charles.
At 12:29 p.m. on January 4th, 2021, Oelwein Police arrested Joseph Glenn Kane, 23, of Maynard. Kane was arrested on a charge of Violation of No Contact Order (Domestic) - simple misdemeanor. This arrest was made in the 500 block of 3rd Ave SE in Oelwein.
At 1:47 p.m. on January 3rd, 2022, Oelwein Police arrested Kody Allen Letts, 30, of Oelwein. Letts was arrested in the 400 block of East Charles on a Fayette County warrant for Violation of Probation.
