February 23,2024

At 10:43am on February 22, 2024 Oelwein Police arrested a 14-year-old male juvenile.  The juvenile was charged with Minor Using Tobacco or Vape Device 1st Offense.  The juvenile was cited and released to guardians following a report of a student using a vape pen.  This matter has been referred to Juvenile Court.

 

At 2:27am on February 23, 2024 Oelwein Police arrested Caleb Christopher Hughes, 21, of Fayette.  Hughes was charged with Operating While Under The Influence 2nd Offense - Aggravated Misdemeanor.  This arrest was made following a traffic stop in the 10 block of 2nd Ave SE.

February 20,2024

At 6:18pm on February 19, 2024 Oelwein Police arrested Crystal Marie Harris, 30, of West Union.  Harris was charged with Driving While License Suspended.  Harris was cited and released following a traffic stop in the 10 block of 6th Ave NE.

 

At 8:22pm on February 19, 2024 Oelwein Police arrested Kassidee Starr Caunt, 31, of Oelwein.  Caunt was charged with Domestic Abuse Assault Causing Bodily Injury 1st Offense - Serious Misdemeanor.  This arrest occurred in the 100 block of 8th Ave NW following a report of a domestic disturbance.

 

At 12:14am on February 20, 2024 Oelwein Police arrested Christopher Allan Manning, 36, of Oelwein.  Manning was arrested on a Buchanan County warrant for Failure To Appear on an original charge of Driving While License Suspended.  This arrest occurred in the 900 block of 2nd Ave NE.

Release: Multiple Fire Calls on Saturday


Fire Reported at the Mealey Apartments- One Person Rescued


On February 17, 2024 at approximately 10:21 p.m., the Oelwein Police Department and the Oelwein Fire Department were dispatched to a report of a fire on the fourth floor of the Mealey Apartments. Officers arrived and entered the structure within two minutes to assess the scene. Officers discovered smoke on the fourth floor and began going room to room to evacuate the residents. Upon entering the north hallway, officers were met with heavy smoke. Officers called out into a smoke filled apartment and they were able to hear a subject in distress.


Officers crawled into the apartment to search for the person. An incoherent male subject was located and officers worked together to drag the subject out of the apartment and down the hallway to safety. The Oelwein Fire Department quickly ascended the stairwell and contained the fire to a small area within the apartment. MercyOne Ambulance arrived immediately to treat the subject.


The male subject was transported to Oelwein MercyOne by ambulance for treatment. Three Oelwein Police Officers were treated and later released at Oelwein MercyOne for smoke inhalation. The preliminary cause of the fire is believed to be from a subject falling asleep while smoking a cigarette. The Oelwein Fire Department was assisted by the Fairbank Fire Department.

Release: Fire Reported On Porch


At approximately 2:53 p.m. on February 17, 2024, the Oelwein Fire Department responded to a report of a grill on a porch that was on fire at 303 1st Ave NE. Fire members were able to quickly extinguish the fire with minimal damage. The cause of the fire is believed to be from excessive grease.

 


Release: Mutual Aid Response - Field Fire


At approximately 3:52 p.m. on February 17, 2024, the Oelwein Fire Department responded to a mutual aid request to assist the Fairbank Fire Department with a field fire located at 1449 110th Street in Buchanan County. Fairbank Fire crews fought 35 mph winds to successfully contain the fire before reaching nearby structures.

At 2:28pm on February 15, 2024 Oelwein Police arrested a 14-year-old male juvenile of Oelwein.  The juvenile was charged with  three counts of Minor Under 21 Using Tobacco/Vape Products 3rd Offense.  The juvenile was cited and released to their guardians following reports of a student possessing vape pens.  This matter has been referred to Juvenile Court.

At 2:32pm on February 9, 2024 Oelwein Police arrested a 15-year-old male juvenile.  The juvenile was charged with Minor Under 21 Using Tobacco/Vape Products 2nd Offense.  The juvenile was cited and released to their guardians following a report of a student with a vape pen.  This matter has been referred to Juvenile Court.

At 1:05pm on February 6, 2024 Oelwein Police arrested a 14-year-old female juvenile, a 13-year-old female juvenile, and a 12-year-old male juvenile.  The 14-year-old and 13-year-old juveniles were charged with Minor Under 21 Using Tobacco/Vape Products 1st Offense, while the 12-year-old juvenile was charged with Minor Under 21 Using Tobacco/Vape Products 2nd Offense.  All three juveniles were cited and released to guardians following reports of students using vape pens.  This matter has been referred to Juvenile Court.
 
 
At 11:30am on February 7, 2024 Oelwein Police arrested Caleb Scott Duffy, 18, of Oelwein.  Duffy was charged with Person Under 21 Using Tobacco/Vape Product 1st Offense.  Duffy was cited and released following a report of underage use of a vape pen in the 300 block of 8th Ave SE.
 
 
Southwest Search Warrant Executed - Arrest Made - Charges Filed
 
At approximately 8:15 p.m. on Thursday, February 8, 2024, the Oelwein Police Department executed a search warrant in the 300 block of 7th Ave SW in Oelwein. During the course of the search warrant, illegal controlled substances and firearms were located and seized. The following subject was arrested and charged:
 
1)James Allen Woodson, 60 of Oelwein:
Trafficking in Stolen Weapons - D Felony
Possession of Controlled Substance-Marijuana Serious Misdemeanor
Possession of Controlled Substance-Methamphetamine - Serious Misdemeanor
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia- Simple Misdemeanor
Mr. Woodson was taken into custody and transported to the Fayette County Jail pending an initial appearance.
 
The following subjects were already in custody at the time of the search warrant and have been charged with:
 
2) Michael Wayne Forbes, 54 of Oelwein:
Possession of Controlled Substance-Marijuana - Serious Misdemeanor
Possession of Controlled Substance-Methamphetamine - Serious Misdemeanor
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia- Simple Misdemeanor
 
3) Kristy Ranae Heidt, 55 of Oelwein:
Possession of Controlled Substance-Marijuana 3rd or Subsequent- D Felony
Possession of Controlled Substance-Methamphetamine 3rd or Subsequent- D Felony
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia- Simple Misdemeanor
 
Additional charges are pending, and these cases are still under investigation. The Oelwein Police Department was assisted by the Fayette County Sheriff's Office and the Independence Police Department.
 

February 6,2024

At 4:31pm on February 5, 2024 Oelwein Police arrested Trenton James Husted, 36, of Oelwein.  Husted was arrested on multiple Fayette County warrants for original charges of two Violations of Probation and Failure to Appear for a charge of two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance (Marijuana 1st Offense and Methamphetamine 1st Offense) - Serious Misdemeanor.  This arrest was made in the 100 block of 7th Ave NW.

 

At 10:57pm on February 5, 2024 Oelwein Police arrested Ashley Marie Bolton, 37, of Oelwein.  Bolton was arrested on two Fayette County warrants for original charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine) 1st Offense - Serious Misdemeanor and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia - Simple Misdemeanor.  This arrest was made in the 600 block of 4th Ave SW.

February 4,2024

At 2:38am on February 3, 2024 Oelwein Police arrested Adam James Nielsen, 39, of Oelwein.  Nielsen was charged with Violation of a No Contact Order - Simple Misdemeanor.  This arrest was made following a report that Nielsen was violating the No Contact Order in the 700 block of 1st Ave SE.

 

At 1:53am on February 4, 2024 Oelwein Police arrested John Paul Krogmann, 19, of Lamont.  Krogmann was charged with Driving While License Suspended - Simple Misdemeanor.  Krogmann was cited and released following a traffic stop in the 100 block of E Charles St.

January 31,2024

At 7:46pm on January 30, 2024 Oelwein Police arrested Michael William Bushaw, 33, of Oelwein.  Bushaw was arrested on a Fayette County Warrant for Failure to Appear on an original charge of Domestic Abuse Assault - Serious Misdemeanor.  Upon arrest Bushaw received additional charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd or Subsequent Offense - Class D Felony, Driving While Barred - Aggravated Misdemeanor, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia - Simple Misdemeanor, and Violation of a No Contact/Protective Order - Simple Misdemeanor.  This arrest was made in the 100 block of W Charles St after officers initiated a traffic stop upon spotting Bushaw and knowing of the warrant for his arrest.

January 26,2024

At 11:09am on January 23, 2024 Oelwein Police arrested John Norman Klink, 29, of Oelwein and Kaitlin Rose Perez, 23, of Oelwein.  Both were charged with Animal Neglect (No Injury) - Simple Misdemeanor.  Both were cited and released in the 700 block of 7th Ave NE following reports of animal neglect.

 

At 1:23pm on January 23, 2024 Oelwein Police arrested a 14-year-old male juvenile of Oelwein.  The juvenile was charged with Minor Using Tobacco or Vapor Products 1st Offense.  The juvenile was cited and released in the 300 block of 8th Ave SE following a report of a student using a vape pen.  This matter has been referred to Juvenile Court.
