On April 11, 2024 Oelwein Police arrested a 14-year-old male juvenile and a 15-year-old male juvenile. At 8:41am the 14-year-old juvenile was charged with Minor Using Tobacco/Vape Device 1st Offense. At 2:17pm the 15-year-old juvenile was charged with Minor Using Tobacco/Vape Device 3rd Offense. Both juveniles were cited and released to guardians following separate reports of students possessing vape pens. This matter has been referred to Juvenile Court.
Oelwein Police investigated a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of South Frederick Ave and 3rd St SE at 10:34am on April 9, 2024. An International tractor trailer driven by Chase Lensing collided with a fire hydrant. Initial estimates of damages were $2,000 to the vehicle driven by Lensing and $2,000 to the fire hydrant.
At 1:16pm on April 9, 2024 Oelwein Police arrested Michael James Kirschbaum, 37, of Oelwein. Kirschbaum was arrested on two counts of Domestic Abuse Assault Causing Bodily Injury 1st Offense - Serious Misdemeanor. This arrest was made in the 1 block of 5th St NW following a report of a domestic disturbance.
Oelwein Police investigated a motor vehicle accident in the Dollar Tree parking lot at 11:05am on April 10, 2024. A Buick Lucerne driven by Shirley Vandereide collided with a Ford Focus driven by Nancy Hemmingson. Initial estimates of damages were $1,500 to the vehicle driven by Vandereide and $2,000 to the vehicle driven by Hemmingson.
Oelwein Police investigated a motor vehicle accident in the Oelwein Family Table parking lot at 11:29am on April 10, 2024. A Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by Therese Wiedrich collided with a GMC Acadia belonging to Anne Allen. Initial estimates of damages were $2,500 to the vehicle driven by Wiedrich and $3,500 to the vehicle owned by Allen.
At 12:59pm on April 10, 2024 Oelwein Police arrested a 14-year-old male juvenile. The juvenile was charged with Minor Using Tobacco/Vape Device 1st Offense. The juvenile was cited and released to guardians following a report of a disorderly student who was found in possession of a vape pen. This matter has been referred to Juvenile Court.
At 5:15pm on April 7th, 2024, Oelwein Police arrested Tanya Jo Taylor, 34, of Oelwein. Taylor was charged with Driving While License Suspended, and was cited and released following a traffic stop in the 400-block 7th Ave S.W.
At 9:55am on April 5, 2024 Oelwein Police arrested Allen Paul Griffith, 74, of Oelwein. Griffith was arrested on two Fayette County warrants for original charges of Lascivious Acts with a Child (Fondle or Touch) - Class C Felony, Dissemination and Exhibition of Obscene Material to Minors - Serious Misdemeanor, and Indecent Exposure - Serious Misdemeanor. This arrest was made in the 800 block of 1st St SE.
At 1:40am on April 6, 2024 Oelwein Police arrested Tanya Jo Taylor, 34, of Oelwein. Taylor was charged with Public Intoxication - Simple Misdemeanor and Trespassing 1st Offense - Scheduled Offense. This arrest was made in the 1 block of 5th Ave NW following a report that Taylor had been walking around seemingly intoxicated before getting into a victim's car and falling asleep.
Oelwein Police investigated a motor vehicle accident in the 900 block of 2nd Ave SE at 3:19pm on April 2. 2024. A black Jeep Cherokee driven by a 17-year-old male juvenile was in a collision with a blue Ford F150 driven by David Roth. Initial estimates of damages were $3,000 to the vehicle driven by the juvenile and $7,000 to the vehicle driven by Roth. The juvenile was cited with Failure to Yield Right of Way. The Oelwein Police were assisted by Mercy Ambulance Oelwein and the Oelwein Fire Department.
At 8:39pm on April 1, 2024 Oelwein Police arrested Adam James Nielsen, 39, of Oelwein. Nielsen was arrested on a charge of Public Intoxication - Simple Misdemeanor. This arrest was made in the 700 block of 1st Ave SE following reports of a drunk male suspect destroying property.
Oelwein Police investigated a motor vehicle accident in the 1300 block of Industrial Park Rd at 8:34am on March 28, 2024. A white Volvo tractor trailer driven by Festin Darko collided with an orange Kenworth tractor trailer driven by Parmjit Singh. Initial estimates of the damages were $2,000 to each vehicle.
At 7:57pm on March 30, 2024 Oelwein Police arrested Andrew Scott Lien, 36, of Oelwein. Lien was arrested on a charge of Driving While Barred - Aggravated Misdemeanor. This arrest was made following a traffic stop in the 400 block of S Frederick.
At 1:02am on March 31, 2024 Oelwein Police arrested Meadow Dorothy Lynn, 23, of Independence. Lynn was arrested on a charge of Operating While Under the Influence 1st Offense - Serious Misdemeanor. This arrest was made following a traffic stop in the 200 block of 1st Ave SE.
At 2:46pm on March 28, 2024 Oelwein Police arrested Allen Joseph Townsend, 43, of Bargersville, IN. Townsend was arrested on charges of Consumption of Alcohol in Public Place 1st Offense - Simple Misdemeanor and Public Intoxication - Simple Misdemeanor. This arrest took place in the 700 block of South Frederick following complaints of Townsend harassing other people and causing a disturbance.
At 8:15pm on March 27, 2024 Oelwein Police arrested Bradley Richard James Cue, 45, of Oelwein. Cue was arrested on two Buchanan County warrants for original charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine) - Class B Felony, Failure to Affix Drug Tax Stamp - Class D Felony, Driving While Barred, and Failure to Appear for the previous listed charges. This arrest took place in the 200 block of W Charles.
On March 23rd 2024 at 1:30pm, Oelwein officers arrested Dustin Martin Shay, age 38 of Oelwein on five Fayette County warrants with original charges of Fail to obey traffic control device x2, speeding, reckless driving, and eluding-child endangerment.
Oelwein officers arrested Nathan Gabriel Kirby, age 37 of Oelwein on March 23rd, 2024 at 5:00pm in the 100 block of 6th Ave S.W. Kirby was arrested on a Fayette County Warrant, original charge violation of a no contact order, and additional charged with violation of no contact order, public intoxication, and interference of official acts (all simple misdemeanors), criminal mischief 4th degree (Serious Misdemeanor), and stalking (Class C Felony).
