Oelwein Police investigated a motor vehicle accident in the 100 blk 1st St SE at 10:56 am on March 30, 2010. A Blue 2000 Ford Focus driven by Jessica Rae Spicer collided with a Blue 2003 Dodge Durango driven by Alfonso Rudolph Brady Jr. Initial estimates of damage were $6,000.00 to the vehicle driven by Spicer and $3,000.00 to the vehicle driven by Brady.
On March 29, 2010, at 2:00 p.m., Oelwein Officers executed a routine traffic stop in the 10 block of East Charles Street in Oelwein. The stop resulted in the on scene arrest and citation of Corey Ray Conner, age 32, of Westgate. Conner was cited and released on a charge of Driving While License Under Suspension, and given a written warning for Failure to Obey a Traffic Control Device.
On March 26, 2010, at 3:00 p.m., Oelwein Officers were called to the 300 block of 8th Avenue SE, for a juvenile tobacco violation. Justin Vanlaningham, age 15, of Oelwein, was charged with Possession of Tobacco Under the Legal Age.
On March 26, 2010 at 8:30 a.m., Oelwein Officers were called to the 300 block of 12th Avenue SE in Oelwein for an occurring incident. As a result, a juvenile male was charged with Disorderly Conduct and referred to Juvenile Services.
At 7:30 pm on March 27, 2010 Oelwein Police arrested Randy Lee Vaughn, 34, of Oelwein. Vaughn was arrested on a charge of Violation of domestic abuse no contact order a Simple Misdemeanor.

On March 26, 2010 at 6:40 a.m., Oelwein Officers responded to a call in the 200 block of Occo Drive in Oelwein for a reported domestic disturbance. As a result, Officers arrested Randy Lee Vaughn, age 35, of Buckingham, on a charge of Domestic Assault, 3rd Offense, a Class D Felony.

On Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at 1:31 p.m. the Oelwein Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a wall heater on fire in one of the rooms at the Parkview Motel located at 2508 South Frederick Avenue in Oelwein. Upon arrival, an investigation found that there was smoke in the attic of the south wing complex that was discovered by a local electrician that was working on the electrical system in that building. With the use of the fire department's thermal imaging camera, a deep seated fire was discovered in the ceiling area above a common wall between two of the motel rooms. The fire department accessed this area and removed the smoldering insulation and extinguished the fire. The area was also cleared of smoke. There was some light damage to the structure and two of the motel rooms had light smoke damage. Firefighters were on the scene for two and one half hours. The loss is covered by insurance and the motel remains open for business. The Oelwein Police Department assisted with the call.
On March 23, 2010 at 12:00 p.m., Oelwein Officers were called to a business in the 10 block of 16th Street SE in Oelwein for a reported shoplifter. As a result, Officers arrested and charged Andrea Helen Wagenknecht, age 24, of Oelwein, with Theft in the 5th Degree, a Simple Misdemeanor.
Oelwein Officers responded to a reported Domestic Disturbance in the 10 block of West Charles in Oelwein, on March 22, 2010 at 11:00 p.m. The report resulted in the arrest of Shawn Patrick Gant, age 37, of Oelwein, on charges of Domestic Abuse Assault, Serious Misdemeanor, and Public Intoxication-3rd Offense, Aggravated Misdemeanor.
On March 22, 2010, at 7:00 p.m., Oelwein Officers were called to the 10 block of 1st Avenue SE in Oelwein, for reported shoplifters. Officers charged and referred to juvenile services, Robin Jayne Lehman, age 14, and a juvenile male on charges of Theft 5th.

Oelwein police investigated a motor vehicle accident in the 100 block of 12th Street SE at 3:51 a.m. on March 22, 2010. A 1998 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Bruce Miller of Denver was struck by a deer. Estimated damage to the vehicle was estimated at $1000.

Oelwein Police investigated a motor vehicle accident in the 300 block of highway 150 south at 4:55 p.m. on March 20, 2010. Damage estimates were under $1000. Both drivers exchanged insurance information at the scene.
On March 20, 2010, at 12:05 p.m., Oelwein Officers executed a traffic stop at the intersection of 2nd Street and 7th Avenue SW, in Oelwein. As a result, Trent Andrew Knudsen, age 33, of Oelwein, was arrested and charged with Operating While Intoxicated, 1st Offense, a Serious Misdemeanor.
On March 19, 2010, at 3:25 p.m., Oelwein Officers were called to the Oelwein Bus Barn to investigate an occurring incident. Clayton Allen Bushaw, age 15, of Oelwein, was cited for Disorderly Conduct, and was referred to Juvenile Services.
Car dolly wheels were recovered on a roadway in the city limits of Oelwein and turned into the Oelwein Police Department. Anyone who has information is asked to contact the Oelwein Police Department.
At 10:10 pm on March 17, 2010 Oelwein police arrested Brian Wayne Makin, 27, of Oelwein. Makin was arrested on a Fayette County Warrant for an original charge of Failure to appear for Child Support Hearing in the 700 blk West Charles St.

TWO MORE MEMBERS OF WATERLOO METH CONSPIRACY PLEAD GUILTY
Two more men involved in distributing methamphetamine for a large-scale Waterloo methamphetamine conspiracy pled guilty March 12, 2010, in federal court in Cedar Rapids. Thomas Blitsch, 39, from Waterloo, Iowa, and Kyle Geary, 24, from Oelwein, Iowa, were convicted of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine.
At his plea hearing, Blitsch admitted he was involved in a conspiracy to distribute more than three pounds of methamphetamine. He is the eleventh defendant to plead guilty to a charge involving the Waterloo methamphetamine conspiracy lasting from January 2005 through about August 21, 2009.
At his plea hearing, Geary admitted he was involved in the distribution of more than 10 pounds of methamphetamine. He is the twelfth defendant to plead guilty to a charge involving this Waterloo methamphetamine conspiracy. Geary was arrested in Arizona on August 21,2009, in possession of over 3 pounds of methamphetamine.
Sentencing before United States District Court Chief Judge Linda R. Reade will be set after presentence reports have been prepared. Blitsch and Geary are in the custody of the U.S. Marshal pending sentencing. Blitsch and Geary each face sentences of at least 10 years’imprisonment and possible up to life, a $4,000,000 fine, and up to life on supervised release following any imprisonment. Both will also forfeit drug proceeds of $30,000 each.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Patrick J. Reinert and was investigated by the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) program of the United States Department of Justice through a cooperative effort of the Oelwein Police

On March 14, 2010, at 1:00 a.m., Oelwein Officers responded to a report of an underage drinking party in the 10 block of 5th St NW in Oelwein. As a result the following individuals were arrested, cited, and released on a charge of Possession of Alcohol Under the Legal Age: Alyssa Ann Sullivan, age 20, of Oelwein; Travis E. Hamblin, age 18, of Hazleton; John Whitney Puff, age 19, of Hazleton; and Andrew Daniel Gloede, age 19, of New Hampton.
At 11:42 pm on March 12, 2010 Oelwein Police cited Castio Joe Miller-Guerrero, 16, of Hazleton. Miller-Guerrero was cited on a charge of Possession of Tobacco under Legal Age a Simple Misdemeanor. This citation was made following a traffic stop in the 100 blk 1st St NW.
At 11:15 am on March 12, 2010 Oelwein Police arrested Bridget Anne Nicolay, 18, and Chrysantara Jefferson, 18, both of Oelwein. Nicolary and Jefferson were both arrested on a charge of Disorderly Conduct a Simple Misdemeanor. This arrest was made after a disturbance was reported in the 300 blk 8th Ave SE.

Also arrested were Preston Jaymes Huinker, age 20, Oelwein, for Possession of a Controlled Substance, Serious Misdemeanor, and Possession of Alcohol Under the Legal Age, and Cody Edward Michael Schulmeister, age 19, Oelwein, for Possession Of a Controlled Substance, Aggravated Misdemeanor, and Possession of Alcohol Under the Legal Age, Also cited in the incident, Tristan Marie Huinker, age 23, Oelwein, for Disturbing the Public Quiet.

At 2:28 a.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2010 Oelwein Police arrested Jolene Renee Hurst, 59, of Oelwein. Hurst was arrested on charges of Operating while under the influence of Alcohol or a Drug-serious misdemeanor; Failure to Maintain Control-simple misdemeanor; and Driving on the Wrong Side of a two-way highway-simple misdemeanor. This arrest was made following officers observation of Hurst driving her vehicle on the wrong side of the street in the 400-blk West Charles and then striking and knocking over a street sign in the same location.

On March 6, 2010, at 2:00 a.m., while on a routine patrol, Oelwein Officers observed a male walking in an intoxicated manner in the 10 block of East Charles Street in Oelwein. As a result of observations, Officers arrested Troy Thomas Thompson, age 42, of Oelwein, for Public Intoxication, a Simple Misdemeanor.
On March 5, 2010 at 11:00 a.m., Oelwein Officers responded to the 1000 block of South Frederick in Oelwein, and subsequently arrested Jennifer Lee Hoilien, age 42, of McGregor, Iowa, on a charge of Public Intoxication.
On March 1, 2010 at 2:20 p.m., Oelwein Officers arrested Jennifer Jo Thornton, age 31, of Oelwein, on a Fayette County warrant for Failure to Appear in Magistrate Court for Civil in a Vicious Dog case.
On March 1, 2010, at 12:15 p.m., Oelwein Officers arrested Allison Marie McDermott, age 26, of Oelwein, on a Fayette County warrant for Failure to Appear on a charge of Driving While License Under Suspension.

Baych was arrested on charges of Possession of Controlled Substance a Serious Misdemeanor, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Public Intoxication both Simple Misdemeanors. This arrest was made after a disturbance was reported in the 10 blk of 2nd St NW.
On February 26, 2010 at 3:45 p.m., Oelwein Officers responded to a report of a burglary in the 200 block of 4th Street NE. Subsequently arrested and charged were Kimberly Sue Eckhardt, age 41, of Albia, Iowa for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Simple Misdemeanor, and Possession of a Controlled Substance, a Serious Misdemeanor. Also arrested and charged was Patrick William Marrah, age 25, of Oelwein for Domestic Abuse Assault, Aggravated Misdemeanor, Burglary in the Third Degree, Class D Felony, Unlawful Possession of Prescription Drug, Serious Misdemeanor,and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a Simple Misdemeanor.
